Our stories
The thought of being a new starter in a big company can be somewhat intimidating, unless you are joining Cambridge Consultants. Everyone at CC is friendly and welcoming which is certainly what I needed on my first day as a Senior User Experience Designer (UX Designer). What a UX Designer does is sometimes hard to explain, so let’s hit the ground running and see what I get up to.
I graduated from Loughborough University in 2021 and studied Industrial Design and Technology. Coming out of University I realised that I wanted to pursue a career in UX as it was the perfect combination of user-centred design and integration with digital technologies.

In 2021, I won the New Designers Breakthrough Design Award for the ‘Corti’ patch pump design. I made this to improve the management of Addison’s disease.
Cambridge Consultants sponsored this award, so I was able to visit the Cambridge office for the award day. I was inspired by the exceptional people and the work that is carried out to expand the boundaries of innovation. I envisioned myself becoming a part of this so was thrilled when I was offered the role within CC.
On my first day, I was assigned a buddy who was there to tell me straight away that ‘no question is a silly question’. So, I’m sure you’re thinking, what does a UX Designer do?
We are responsible for designing and improving the user experience of a product or service, meanwhile ensuring that the solution is accessible, easy to use, visually appealing and most importantly meets the needs of the user. As a UX Designer, empathy is key and understanding the core user problem is essential to designing an effective solution.
My day to day could range from conducting user research, creating user personas, designing wireframes and prototypes, or conducting user testing. I work closely with Developers, Product Managers, Technology Strategists and other design team members to make sure that the final product is a high quality solution.
What is it like to be a new starter at Cambridge Consultants?
Since joining CC, my expectations have gone above and beyond of what I ever imagined. The types of projects and the variety of work you can get stuck into is eye opening. I was surprised by the amount of people that invested their time to get to know me as a new starter, by asking me if I would like to go for lunch or grab a coffee together.
As a team, our dynamic is great. We work very closely with each other, but also with other colleagues in different departments. I often find myself learning something new from individuals around the business.
The fun doesn’t just stop at projects. I have been able to get involved with other initiatives like the Tech for Good scheme, lend a hand on bring your child to work day and to also be an active member of the social club committee.
One thing that stands out to me about the company is its culture. The uniqueness of CC’s people, facilities and work is like no other. In my short space of time here so far, I have already had colleagues turn into lifelong friends!
