Medical Device Evolution: Advancements & Innovations Webinar

September 5, 2024 @ 2:00 pm - September 6, 2024 @ 5:30 pm BST

Speaking Session:

Title: ‘Sustainable by design: Developing patient and planet centric medical devices’

Speakers: Charlie Dean, Head of Sustainable Medical Technology at Cambridge Consultants & Natasha Commins, Senior Mechanical Engineer

Time and Date: 16:35 pm – 17:00 pm – (Day 1 – 5th September 2024)

Synopsis: Developing sustainable medical devices is often seen as conflicting with cost or usability, but with an effective approach it can in fact be a tremendous opportunity. Using a conceptual body worn injector case study, this talk will show case how to:

  • Leverage relevant data from Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and other tools to enable insight driven optimisation towards highest priorities
  • Navigate the trade-offs and optimizing for a reduced environmental impact and patient-centric design
  • Achieve a holistic outcome through deploying cross-disciplinary teams
