It shares clear, actionable steps for the successful implementation of AI. More than that, it explores AI-enabled technologies, techniques and strategies that are pertinent for a broad range of smart infrastructure applications throughout the world.

For those with ambitions in everything from gas and electricity networks to communications and satellite networks; from smart city developments to multimodal transport; the report illuminates ways that emerging technology can accelerate the next generation of critical infrastructure. AI is pivotal for this new age of digital infrastructure that will be characterized by accessibility, interoperability and sustainability.

Smart infrastructure innovation

I think objectivity is key to CC’s contribution to the broad vision outlined in the report. One-size-fits-all thinking has no place in complex smart infrastructure innovation. As a diverse group of multidisciplinary technologists, my colleagues don’t have a particular technological solution to promote, so our experts are able to advocate holistic, outcome-driven AI deployment. The approach embraces complementary technologies and is, by definition, ripe for agile cross-pollination across sectors.

For me, another important aspect of the publication is its actionability. From the get-go, we wanted the guidance to be practical, usable and ready for implementation. For this reason, the content sets out clear, actionable steps for successful AI implementation. It addresses the interconnection of processes, people, technology and data, while emphasizing how different organizational functions, executive, operational, and delivery should work in lockstep to execute a cohesive AI strategy.

Efficient and secure AI implementation

Key sections provide an overview of critical AI deployment roles; explore core focus areas, offer recommendations for different AI maturity stages, and share real-world, best-practice case studies. A 10-point action plan offers a clear roadmap to prioritize AI initiatives. The team of expert CC authors also helped to emphasize why integrating transformative technologies like AI requires strategic alignment and public trust, with adherence to safety, cybersecurity, privacy, and regulatory standards.
