Introduction 

At Cambridge Consultants, we help our clients deliver new world-changing technology. We are seeking an AI Operations Engineer help us work at scale – working with large datasets and deploying AI models into production. 

The role

Working within our Intelligent Services business unit at Cambridge Consultants, you will have the opportunity to work oncontribute to projects across many of the market sectors we work in. For example, the systems you’ll be creating could be used to store images to improve medical diagnostic equipment, generate simulated network traffic to optimize a communications network, or use multi-modal data to predict and reduce energy consumption. 

As a consultancy business, our projects are not short on variety. We may deliver a prototype for a client in a matter of weeks, or spend months developing a system as part of a large multidisciplinary team. Each project brings unique requirements and the opportunity to learn and develop new techniques and approaches. You’ll be embedded in one of our AI groups, so will be involved in projects using data to develop cutting-edge Machine Learning models.  You’ll also be working alongside domain experts from other disciplines – bio-informatics, medical devices, communications and more. 

What you’ll be doing 

You may already have experience relevant here, or there may be some areas where you are looking to develop your skills: 

• Setup AI workloads such as experiments and training runs using Docker/Kubeflow/Kubernetes or other workflow orchestration tools. 

• Develop AI-based software, such as retrieval augmented generation (RAG) systems using large language models (LLMs). 

• Design and implement data pipelines, taking performance, and the requirements of niche workloads into consideration. 

• Develop automated MLOps pipelines using Gitlab CI/CD and promote best practices, including test, experiment tracking, data validation and efficient resource utilization. 

• Support maintenance and development of our cloud infrastructure, primarily AWS and Azure but other systems are also used depending on client requirements. 

For more senior applicants, and as a growth area for others, you may be involved in: 

• Supporting conversations with clients to determine project requirements, and to explain the commercial benefits of our approach. 

• Providing technical input to project proposals, and work with Project Managers to plan and estimate tasks. 

• Organize code review processes ensuring high quality software delivered by you and others. 

• Mentoring and guiding junior team members, assigning and reviewing tasks. 

What you’ll bring

You’ll be comfortable working at scale, with large datasets, databases or cloud services and will have a few examples of previous systems you’ve built. 

You will be able to demonstrate: 

• A keen interest in applying AI to real-world problems. 

• Good communication skills and the ability to coordinate with internal and client stakeholders. 

• Experience of using modern tools and development practices, and be comfortable writing high quality software in Python. 

• A collaborative approach and a willingness to help build an engaging team culture.
