Overview
We’re looking for a temporary Biologist to support one of our ongoing projects, likely through to the end of August.
Please note that due to the nature of the work, weekly hours may vary, with occasional long days (up to 12 hours).
Key responsibilities
- Independently perform cell culturing tasks such as handling of mammalian cell lines, growing, passaging, cell counting and microscope observations
- Independently growing and handling of microbial cells (E.coli)
- Independently perform molecular biology tasks such as nucleic acid extractions and purification, PCR and gel electrophoresis
- Plan and execute experiments according to timelines, with guidance & direction from team member
- Keep accurate and detailed records of experiments and analyse and present results and conclusions promptly and clearly
- Support general laboratory operations and laboratory management responsibilities. This includes:
- Preparing media, buffer, reagents, samples, and media using aseptic techniques
- Provide and promote lab-based support for operational excellence
Requirements
- An excellent degree in biotechnology, microbiology, molecular biology or closely related discipline
- Demonstrable skills and hands-on experience in:
- Culturing and handling mammalian cell lines
- Culturing and handling microbial cells (bacteria, yeast, or fungi)
- Common molecular biology techniques (e.g. nucleic acid extraction and quantification, PCR, gel electrophoresis)
- Strong communication skills and an affinity for working in multidisciplinary teams
