As our North America business expands, we are seeking a Business Developer in GridTech for our Energy and Industrial team. This unit is at the forefront of the energy transition and industrial decarbonization, creating world-first technologies in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.

What You’ll Do and The Impact You’ll Make

You will be responsible for building and expanding the GridTech/Energy market in North America, working with an established global team of commercial and technical experts in the energy and climatetech sector. This role has significant client contact, and you will use your knowledge and experience to drive innovation with our clients. You will work to define strategy,  client programs and develop the commercial approach to bids, ideally working “ahead of the RFP” to influence the innovation direction of bids.

In this role, you will:

• Evangelize Deep Tech as a strategy for creating unfair advantage and enduring business value for our clients.
• Think like a founder to not only understand market trends but to define new ones, collaborating with our technical teams and engage with client executives to bring innovative proposals and novel technologies that demonstrate a competitive edge.
• Lead from the front in building market focus and commercial strategy in the North America GridTech market to foster the development, and deployment of trailblazing technologies, working with technical teams to ensure movement from client ideation to full-scale delivery, and be clients’ trusted technology partner.
• Navigate the unknown with confidence, guiding clients through the uncertainty of early-stage innovation to deliver concrete, world-class solutions.
• Build lasting client partnerships founded on trust and your ability to consistently lead to deliver pioneering technology in a rapidly evolving landscape.

You will use your strong technical skills to communicate what Cambridge Consultants can deliver to potential clients. Your background skills will also help you to make a significant contribution to the overall direction of development projects, often working on multiple projects at a time. You will build and maintain a deep domain knowledge that will strengthen your ability to engage with clients and collaborate with our technical teams throughout the client journey.  Moreover, key to your success will be:

• Developing and owning our plan for building business in the North America energy sector – exploring possible markets, testing hypotheses of what we could do and testing these with industry stakeholders
• Identifying and building consultative relationships with key contacts
• Developing strong commercial relationships with key individuals within client and potential client organizations to enable further sales opportunities
• Interacting with teams across the whole of Cambridge Consultants to develop the best technology solutions to our clients to solve their problems or maximize their opportunities for market gain

What you’ll bring to the role

You have a strong technical background in areas relevant to the market, with a degree in a technical or science discipline. Your career will likely have included experience in an R&D or operations role within the energy supply chain or GridTech. You will have responsibility for developing the commercial side of projects within this market area and you will possess detailed domain knowledge as well as industry network. You may have previous experience of working in a consultancy, DNO, tech disruptor to the energy sector or other ‘fee for service’ organization.

Ideally, you will have a successful track record of building business to deliver technical solutions services in this sector and will have experience developing innovative development work for specific client needs in this market.  Above all, you have a passion for innovative technology solution and for solving complex problems.
